Police in Mombasa on Sunday released three of the seven suspects who were arrested on Friday over alleged involvement in terrorist activities.

The three, Rashid Mohammed Rashid, Shariffa Faiz Hyder and Faiz Hayder Mohammed were set free due to lack of evidence.

Speaking during an interview with the Nation, Mombasa Urban OCPD Mr Lucas Ogara said the other four suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday.

“The remaining four are still in custody and will be arraigned in court on Monday,” said Ogara.

He further clarified that the arrested suspects were seven and not eight, as had earlier been reported.

“The number of suspects who were being grilled by our detectives was seven and not eight as had earlier been reported,” said Ogara, as quoted by the daily.

The suspects were nabbed in Mtwapa and Kizingo on Friday night and are being detained at the Coast regional police headquarters.
