Police in Mombasa have nabbed 300 boxes of various medicines worth Sh8 million that are said to have been stolen on February 1.

Confirming the Thursday incident, Coast Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Pius Macharia said that the medication which was imported from India, was stolen after the truck driver was reportedly drugged.

The boxes, which were on transit to Nairobi were seized in a flat in Miritini, Mombasa.

Macharia said Maungu police station officers have launched investigations into the matter and are looking for a key suspect, who has been identified as Chege.

"Acting on information from members of the public, we laid a quick ambush and nabbed the stolen consignment," he said.

Stickers on the boxes indicate that the medicines were packed at Unisource Pharma limited, The Star reports.
