A good number of August 8 election losers in Mombasa could be shielded from the vagaries of disappearing into political oblivion with Cabinet Secretary appointments to the next President Uhuru Kenyatta government.Jubilee Party failed to win a single political seat in Mombasa in the August 8 contest. However, at presidential election level, Uhuru managed to better his 2013 election tally, thanks to his campaign team in the Coastal city.With former Mvita MP and Tourism CS Najib Balala's position assured in the next cabinet, Uhuru may still bring in more of his lieutenants to his new cabinet.Former Senator Hassan Omar who lost to Governor Hassan Joho in the August 8 gubernatorial race is one of the favourites to make the cut to the prestigious CS position.However, he will face stiff competition from businessman Suleiman Shahbal who also lost in the governor race.Shahbal masterminded Uhuru's political turnaround in Mombasa as he managed to deliver almost 100,000 votes in the August 8 poll and over 78,000 in the October 26 poll.Also in contention for the minister positions is former Nominated MP Amina Abdallah who lost to ODM's Asha Hussein in the Women Rep race. Others include former Likoni MP Masoud Mwinyi who lost to ODM's Mishi Mboko and politicians Omar Shallo, a loser in the Mvita MP race and Karisa Nzai, a former Joho ally-turned -foe who lost to ODM's Badi Twalib in the Jomvu MP race.
