A section of Mombasa residents has called upon Governor Hassan Joho to clean up the town before embarking on the transformative agenda he has outlined. The residents want the county boss to clean the city and clear the heaps of garbage in different parts of the town. They argued that the garbage heaps in the city might scare off tourists.“He must focus on hygiene first to create a healthy environment,” said one of the residents. The call comes at a time when the county boss is marking the first 100 days of his second term in office.Over the past weeks, the governor has been laying a foundation for socio-economic development as he seeks to transform Mombasa into a global spanning conglomeration. One of his allies, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the governor wants to leave a legacy once he vacates office in 2022 upon completion of his second term in power.“He wants to leave a legacy and the Mombasa Vision 2035 is very important to him,” said the ally, as quoted by The star.Mombasa County communications director Richard Chacha on Thursday said the county government will account for what it has done in the last 100 days following Joho’s re-election into office.“A hundred days would be too soon to give an account of what we have done, but a lot has been done,” said Chacha. The county boss has pledged to address different issues in the county including better waste management, supplying residents with piped water, improving healthcare and better security among others. On his part, county secretary Francis Thoya said the county government is committed to cleaning the coastal city. The county government on Wednesday launched a clean-up exercise in different parts of the city.
