Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi oversaw a meeting between the County Department of Agriculture and Fisheries led by CeC Mwamtoa and the Agricultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Kenya Ms Ingrid Korving.

Their deliberations focussed on the Agricultural prospects of Mombasa and the Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani region at large and how they can partner with the Dutch Counsel of Agriculture in realizing the full Agricultural potential of the region. 

"With this partnership we hope to focus on value chain and market based approaches as a means of achieving this goal," said Kingi no Tuesday.

The Netherlands being the World's second largest exporter of Agricultural products, the County government also hopes to benefit from the Dutch Agricultural expertise as well as technology transfer to harness food security in the region by making available safe, nutritious and affordable foods both for the domestic markets and Dutch markets. 

The Jumuiya region at large has a great potential in diary farming, Drop c farming and Aquaculture which Kingi said would greatly benefit from the partnership that among others will aim at creating a market driven, competitive Agricultural sector in the region with benefits for all across the value chain.

"The County Government of Mombasa remains committed to building sustainable solutions for our Agricultural needs."

He disclosed that they would engage further with Dutch friends to work out modalities of promoting research and innovation in the sector and also financial support for the small and medium sized farmers whose efforts to make the region food secure are often limited by finances.
