Speaking on Monday, Mombasa County Commissioner Maalim Mohamed said areas that are likely to be targeted include Likoni Ferry, Mombasa Port, Moi International Airport, the Jomo Kenyatta public beach, churches and other major institutions.

"A terror alert was issued and security agents will remain vigilant in order to avert any possible attack. We want to assure Mombasa County residents and visitors alike that we have put adequate security measures in all the major places in town,” said Maalim.

The commissioner said the county's security committee was in the final stages of developing a security intelligence committee geared at boosting security in the county.
