The Aga Khan University (AKU) has unveiled plans to improve health services in four different counties.The project is aimed at providing better health care to children and women in Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Kisii counties.Addressing journalists ahead of the launch of AKU Mombasa Research Office on Wednesday, Aga Khan University Hospital director of Centre of Excellence Prof Marleen Temmerman and associate dean for Research, Prof William Macharia said that the Canadian government has aside set Sh500 million for the project.The funds allocated for the four year project to be undertaken in four counties will be used for different functions including research, evaluation and learning. Prof Macharia said they are working closely with Governor Hassan Joho and his other counterparts from the three counties to ensure better health care, adding that the launch of the office will mark a major milestone for the institution.On her part, Prof Temmerman said the main aim of the project is supporting women. “The funds used for the programmes are specific. The ultimate goal is to serve women population,” she said, as quoted by Nation. The event was also attended by representatives from the four county governments, the Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS), the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).
