The county government of Mombasa has unveiled plans to launch its own tourism board.
Speaking during a round table meeting convened by KCTA, Governor Hassan Joho said the Mombasa Tourism Board will revive as well as manage the tourism sector in the region upon its inception.
Joho said his administration has plans to push a bill through the county assembly to create the board, as they look forward to reviving the ailing tourism sector.
“We have among other things received the great news that our beautiful port city shall be playing host to the 2018 edition of the Skal World Congress and what a better way to show support by having to work closely with tourism stakeholders,” said Joho, as quoted by the Standard.
His sentiments were backed by Kenya Coast Tourist Association (KCTA) chairman, Mohamed Hersi, who said the idea was timely and beneficial to the people in the region.
Association of Hotelkeepers and Caterers (Kahc) Coast branch Executive Officer, Sam Ikwaye said the intention to form the board has been around for sometime and thanked the governor for reviving the idea.
“It has taken time to form due to among others key legislative requirements. But today Governor Joho has given credence to the boards formation with his firm support for the venture,” said Ikwaye.
