Mr Wamunyinyi who is also Kanduyi Member of Parliament said Mombasa was chosen over other counties as it would offer a chance for the members to showcase the country’s favorite tourist destination.

“By hosting this event in Mombasa, it will give us a chance to showcase Mombasa which is our major tourist destination,” said Wamunyinyi.

Speaking in Mombasa, he said plans are underway to ensure the event is successful.

“We are in Mombasa to inspect the facilities ahead of the East Africa Community parliamentary games which will be in December,” he said. “We have to ensure that everything is in place as early as possible because we are expecting at least 1 000 participants.”

The parliamentary team that took part in the 6th edition of the games in Kigali, Rwanda last year emerged the overall winners.

Different sports disciplines including football, netball, volleyball, golf, tug of war and athletics will featured in the event.
