The US government and the county of Mombasa have agreed to collaborate fighting extremism.
Governor Hassan Joho on Friday hosted a delegation from the US in a meeting that aimed at initiating partnerships that help eradicate terrorism at the Coast.
Coast is one of the regions in the country where youth radicalisation has been heightened with police reports indicating a dozen residents- already trained- have crossed the border and joined terror group Al-Shabaab in Somalia.
"Mombasa County had the privilege of hosting a delegation from the United States of America led by Mr Michael R Ortiz Deputy Coordinator for Countering Violent Extremism, Bureau of Counterterrorism and Countering Violent Extremism at our offices," Joho, through his official Facebook page wrote on Friday.
"We discussed various areas of partnership between us, key amongst them the Strong Cities Network. We look forward to strengthening these areas of cooperation in the coming days.
The latest terror attack at the Coast occurred in mid-September when three suspected terrorists raided the Mombasa Central Police Station.
All the three suspects, Saeda Ali Haji, Naema Nahamed Ali and Shukri Ali were unlucky as they were gunned down while escaping.
The attack happened about two weeks before suspected terror mastermind Ismael Mohammed Shosi was shot dead when police raided his rental house in Kisauni's Mwandoni area on September 27.
