Former employees of Mombasa tycoon Twahir Said, popularly known as TSS, have moved to court to sue the family for failure to pay them their salaries. The workers are seeking court orders to have TSS Investments Limited pay them their salaries for March 2017.The court heard that TSS' sons Mr Tauhida Tahir and Mr Mohamed Tahir who serve as the director and manager of the company, failed to pay Newton Wafula, Bonface Agumba and 31 others Sh415,730. The workers are suing TSS Investments Limited and the two sons who were charged with failing to comply with orders issued by the Employment and Labour Relations court. The workers also accused the company of failing to give them prior notice and not following procedures before terminating their contracts in April.Failure to follow procedures while terminating the contracts of the employees resulted in non-payment of Sh3 million which was to be awarded as compensation for unfair termination but was not paid. The brothers are also charged with failing to produce employment records of the dismissed 56 employees as demanded by a labour officer. The two brothers and TSS Investment pleaded not guilty to all the charges before Mombasa Labour Court deputy registrar Robert Nesotia. The case will be mentioned on November 29, 2017.
