A group of youth in Mombasa on Monday spread the Christmas cheer by distributing food and clothes to street families in the Coastal city.Led by Abdallah Abubakar, a youth activist the group donated loaves of bread, drinks, clothing and other gifts to street families living in various parts of Mombasa.Abubakar said they have carried out the programme since 2014, adding that it was growing bigger as both Muslims and Christians were coming together to donate the goods to the needy. He said the programme targets poor women living at Makadara grounds in Mombasa, street children living in Maboxini area near the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Mombasa offices and other street families at Saba Saba and Buxton areas.Abubakar, who is living with a disability, said street families live in very harsh conditions and badly need humanitarian aid from well-wishers.“Christmas is for all us so is Eid- ul-fitri and Eid- Ul-Adhah. We decided to keep aside our religious beliefs and help the needy in our society,” said Abubakar. He appealed to well-wisher to support the programme in future so that street families can benefit and enjoy Christmas. On his part, Alfred Ogweno, a member of the group, appealed to the Mombasa county government to put up measures that will ensure street families especially children get better shelter and attend school. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
