Youth in Mombasa allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) have vowed not to turn out to vote in Thursday’s presidential repeat polls. The youth, who hail from Mvita Constituency, have ignored calls from Jubilee and a section of religious leaders to turn out in large numbers and vote tomorrow.Addressing journalists on Wednesday, Mvita youth leader Mohammed Hussein said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) cannot deliver a transparent, fair, just and credible election.Hussein, popularly known as ‘Amadoh’, said Mvita youth will not waste their time and energy queueing to vote in an already predetermined presidential election. He said IEBC should stand up for itself and stop being misused by the Jubilee government.“At this juncture, we see IEBC as Jubilee and Jubilee as IEBC. We cannot work with such a commission, in fact, it is no longer independent but political inclined,” said Amadoh. He said the country was heading in the wrong direction and it was only reasonable for the polls to be pushed to a further date to allow for dialogue for the sake of the country’s unity.“We are being forced to participate in a disputed poll. The country is divided and we youth have no space in both political factions,” he added. He, however, urged the youth to refrain from causing chaos during the repeat presidential polls and completely stay away from polling stations. The youth leader said there was no point of voting considering their preferred candidate Raila Odinga had withdrawn from the polls.
