Residents of Mombasa should not expect much under Governor Hassan Joho, Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has said.Awiti said Joho plans to vie for the presidency in 2022 and will thus focus his attention to the poll at the expense of county development. Joho has indicated he will contest for the presidency in 2022.Awiti is one of Joho’s greatest critics from Coast region. He claims the county chief has mismanaged county resources through foreign trips.Joho, however, has been on the defensive saying the trips have helped the devolved unit secure development funds. He says the money, particularly has been spent in refurbishing the Coast Provincial General Hospital.“For Joho, it is clear that national issues trump county issues. Development issues will take a back seat,” said Awiti, as quoted by The Star.He said Mombasa cannot develop if the governor continues to focus on national politics. Awiti has expressed confidence he will trounce Joho in the August poll.Awiti was elected on a Wiper party ticket while Joho won the 2013 election through ODM.Awiti, however, recently decamped to little known Vibrant Democratic Party after Wiper handed Mombasa Senator Omar Hassan the party certificate to vie against Joho.Awiti said the fact that Joho is not a member of the Pentagon clearly shows he is not valued in NASA.NASA pentagon is constituted by Raila Odinga (ODM), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) and Isaac Ruto (CCM).
