Police in Mombasa on Tuesday morning shot dead a terror suspect in Kisauni area.
Confirming the 11.30 am incident, Kisauni OCPD Richard Ngatia said the suspect, Ismail Mohammed Soshi, had been in the police 'most wanted' list.
Shoshi, who is said to be part of a hit squad targeting police officers, is alleged to be behind the killing of Hashim Salman, a National Intelligence Service officer in July, 2015.
Ngatia said the suspect was killed following a shoot out with Anti-Terrorism Police (ATPU) officers, who raided his rental house in Mwandoni, where he is said to have been hiding for the past two days.
The house is reported to belong to Fatuma Masuo, the widow of an Al-Qaeda operative who was gunned down by police in 2013.
“We have recovered a G3 rifle, which he is suspected of stealing from an officer he and others killed,” said Ngatia, as quoted by Nation.
According to KBC, police also recovered 188 rounds of ammunition, a training manual on how to defeat intelligence, two mobile phones and identification cards belonging to different people.
The suspect is also said to have been linked to the murder of CIPK Mombasa chair Sheikh Mohamed Idriss in June 2014, as well as the killing of a CID officer in Old Town in March, 2015.
