Issues surrounding Monday chaos during the Cord demonstrations have taken a new twist.
This is after the opposition alleged that the perpetrators were hired Mungiki assailants out to taint the ongoing protests.
Making the revelations the Cord co-chairs, Johnstone Muthama, and James Orengo said they have tangible evidence that the chaos that erupted in Kibera and the streets of Nairobi were done by Mungiki followers who had been hired by two sitting parliamentarians from Central Kenya.
The opposition further indicated that the Mungiki assailants were hired and transported to Nairobi just before the Monday protests so as to engage in violence and looting acts to badly taint the opposition’s name. These revelations come amid increased calls to the opposition to seek alternative strategies of amicably solving the standoff without subjecting innocent Kenyans to pain, suffering and tension as witnessed early in the week.
Meanwhile, the opposition has indicated that it shall push on with its weekly protests until the government decides to hold dialogue or the IEBC commissioners step aside at will.
On Thursday, Raila's spokesperson, Dennis Onyango noted that his boss had travelled to South Africa for an international forum but would ultimately jet back on time to foresee the next Monday demonstrations.
