Interior Cabinet Secretay Joseph Nkaissery has officially declared the 2nd of January a public holiday.
The information was made through a Gazette notice on Friday.
"It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government in the exercise of powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holiday Act declares that Monday, 2nd January 2017 be a public holiday," reads the statement.
The announcement is due to the fact that the New Year day will fall on Sunday.
