A section of residents of Sameta Sub-county have raised an alarm over misuse of cash meant for the elderly in the area.
The chairperson of the elderly in the Sub-county Thomas Mironga is lamenting of favouritsm by their leaders, who allegedly distribute the funds to young people who do not qualify.
Speaking to our reporter, Mironga raised issue with how the whole exercise is conducted, saying that their leaders are channeling the funds to the wrong group and want action taken.
“They came and registered us but we have not been told where the names are, now we are asking ourselves whether they only came to collect our names for the sake of the group and enrich themselves,” said Mironga.
He further said that they have through their secretary Obwogi Nyanganga, raised the issue with the Chairperson requesting him to come and address them on which criteria they use to give out this money.
“The programme is there but we have not got our due up to date, and that is why we have informed the chairperson because we need to know what is happening,” said Mironga.
The group secretary Henry Mirera lamented on the same, saying it was wrong for the leaders to misuse funds made for a specific group of people.
“We are not told when the money is out but we hear from our fellow old men and women in our locality got this money which means the information about the money is revealed to other groups which benefit,” said Mirera.
