Nyamira County Senator Kennedy Mong'are has urged area youths to shun from radical activities and drug abuse that will ruin their lives.

Speaking during the an ongoing tournament organized by youths in Nyamira at Nyamaiya stadium on Thursday evening,  the senator said the county government has rolled up an education bursary kitty for needy and bright students.

“I urge our youths to apply for the bursary in order to continue with their secondary and higher education as this is the only way to reduce poverty,” said Okong’o

He cautioned the youth against radicalisation into joining the Al-Shabaab terror group, arguing that they will not benefit from fighting their own government.

He noted that the region has the potential, and asked the young people to invest in football where the county administration will help in nurturing talents.

“Many European football clubs are richer than many African governments, they have invested too much money in football where players are among the highest earners,” he added

The senator promised to start the Senator’s cup where the winner will walk home with Sh500, 000.
