Speaking on Thursday at Chematich Shopping Centre, Kiptororo Ward, during a public meeting, Rono expressed concern over the rate in which minors are being exposed to the recruitment of Al-Shabaab insurgency.

Rono said that parents have responsibilities to guide their children and save them from being recruited into the terror groups.

“Parents should spend time with their youth to ensure that they are not lured into crime related groups,” said Rono .

The administrator urged youth to ignore any favours advanced to them by terror groups.

“Al -Shabaab insurgents have been secretly recruiting our youths with aim of making them their miliatias,” notes Rono.

Rono expressed concern over the high rate of youth reported missing, going to Somalia, to join Al -Shabaab militants.

“It is shocking to note that a number of school-going youth have been lured into Somalia by Al-Shabaab terrorists,” said Rono .

The chief’s meeting comes in the wake of Kenyan youth being recruited into the terror group .

A few weeks ago three girls were arrested crossing over into Somalia to join Al-Shabaab ranks .

Furthermore the revelation that one of the lead gunmen, who led the killings of the 147 Garissa University College students, was a youth from Mandera County has raised fears.

Rono urged the security agencies to crackdown the financiers and sympathisers of Al-Shabaab.

The meeting was attended by over 300 parents and their children.
