Residents of Mwamogusii village Borabu Nyamira County have raised concern over increased monkeys loitering in the area.
This comes after three monkeys broke into houses and stole four sacks of maize in an incident that has created human-animals conflict.
The owner of the house identified as Mary Motari said she had gone to fetch water at a water spring 100 meters away from home when the monkeys entered her house.
“I forgot to close the door of my house when I left to fetch water at a nearby spring. I was shocked when I returned only to find three monkeys in my house eating maize,” she said.
Mrs. Motari said she raised alarm and neighbors arrived and helped her to drive the monkeys from the house.
“We are pleading with Kenya Wildlife services to come into our rescue because it is a matter of time before the monkeys turn against us.
"It is shocking that the 3 monkeys ate a sack of maize and no one is going to compensate us,” said Ann Machoni, a local.
The residents said they will kill monkeys hiding at tea estates in the region if KWS will not intervene.
