Subukia MCA Njoroge Muchiri has called upon Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to tame monkeys that have wreaked havoc in parts of Subukia Constituency bordering Menengai Crater.
The monkeys have been reported to be feeding on the area residents farm produce such as irish potatoes, maize, carrots, tomatoes among others produce.
“More than 400 residents of Gatongu, Mireroni and Kimenywa farms risk facing starvation because monkeys have fed on their farm produce which they solely depend on for their survival,’’ said MCA Muchiri adding that recently rogue monkeys ate a lamb at Gatongu farm creating panic among the locals on the safety of young children.
He pointed out that it is not the first time that the monkeys have trouble and panic among farmers in the area adding that in 2013 farmers raised similar concerns although no action was taken.
He called upon Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to set up an emergency fund to purchase relief food for the locals who now suffer the consequences of the monkeys behaviour.
MCA Muchiri said that he is willing to have the county treasury divert some money meant for development in Subukia Ward to purchase relief food for his people following the incident.
