[Photo/Daily Nation] President Uhuru Kenyatta while speaking on Sunday in Baringo county uttered sentiments that were perceived by many as an attack on the Judiciary it even led to Chief Justice David Maraga sending a statement to the newsrooms to contest the allegations.
However, it seems that the Jubilee party is yet to let loose Maraga and his team after Monday's statement from the party headquarter led by Secretary-General Raphael Tuju.
Tuju took issues with Judges George Odunga and William Ouko accusing them of conflict of interest when they handled the case on the tender for printing ballot papers.
The Jubilee leaders revealed what they thought might have led to the conflict of interest, according to them Judge Odunga’s wife is Siaya Senator James Orengo’s niece while Judge Ouko is related to Raila Odinga's wife Ida. “We are shocked and concerned that some judges handling the cases did not declare a conflict of interest. We respect the Judiciary but we have a right to critique them,” Tuju said.
However, Tharaka-Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki dismissed claims that the Jubilee party is waging war against the Judiciary.
"We are not attacking the Judiciary. Lawyers criticise judgments every day. You cannot muzzle us not to comment on what we believe is a bad judgment,” he said.
