The United States has asked NASA leader Raila Odinga to drop his plan to take an oath of office early next year.

Through the acting assistant secretary of state for African affairs, Donald Yamamoto, the US said that the former Prime Minister’s plot to be sworn in as the people’s President will do the nation more harm than good.

“Forming a separate or parallel government is really unhelpful,” Yamamoto said on Tuesday during a teleconference with reporters, as quoted by Daily Nation.

Yamamoto also hailed Raila's track record, saying that he is committed to making the nation a better place.

He also said that the opposition leader is known because of his push for reforms.

Yamamoto divulged that he had asked Raila, 72, to focus on his legacy than the fight to ascend to power.

The top US diplomat for Africa said that President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is serving his second term, has expressed commitment to support reforms before he leaves office.

He further said that the US enjoys cordial relationships with this nation, adding that the nation is ready to support Kenyan during this period.
