A section of Kibera residents have called on the government to get some means to curb the increasing number of churches in Kenya.
According to the residents, many churches are coming up with different rules which lead to them to form religions that are a threat to the development of the country.
Alex Makokha said the government has been too soft to handling churches. He said the number of churches in Kenya has really increased. He, however, said the problem is not how many churches are coming up but that there is no progress or development the churches have shown.
‘‘Many churches have come up. This is the reason why other people are opening churches without receiving any call from the Lord. They use churches to steal from people. Some of them even have good businesses because of the money they stole from people in the name of being pastors,’’ said Annette Quinter.
Bramwel Mutisya also said some religions are not supposed to be embraced.
‘‘We have heard of some religions who don’t take medicine if they are sick. Some even don’t allow their children to go to school. Some don’t want their faithful to put on some certain clothes because they believe it is evil. All this is nonsense and an enemy of the country’s development,’’ he said.
