Courtesy: The Star]A number of key civil societies have raised credibility issues on the just concluded presidential repeat polls.Under the banner Kura Yangu Sauti Yangu, the civil groups pointed out various inconsistencies in the October 26 polls. In their assessment report, the groups wondered why the number of voters announced by IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati did not reconcile with number of gazetted voters both in the County and national tallying centers.“Mr Chebukati's announced numbers match what is in the gazetted register in only four of the 48 counties [voting areas] (eight percent),” the report said in part.“In 92 percent of the counties, the gazetted number and Chebukati’s announced number are different," the report continued. The groups further questioned Chebukati's figure of the total number of registered voters who turned up to vote.“That total is not the total of all votes cast. It is actually the sum total of his announcement of candidates’ aggregate valid votes. Using his individual county results, the total number of valid votes is 7, 716, 107,” they remarked.IEBC subsequently declared Jubilee Party presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta winner, with Opposition chief Raila Odinga emerging second.Raila had, however, earlier on announced his withdrawal from the presidential race, citing lack of electoral reforms within IEBC.
