The commander of the police issued more clarification on the red-zoned roads, those to be used by dignitaries, ahead of President Uhuru's second-term inauguration.

According to Japheth Koome, the roads will still be accessible to members of the public.

The only thing that will happen is that they will be cordoned-off when the VIPs are passing and opened thereafter.

This clarification contradicts earlier communication that the roads would be totally out of bounds for the duration of the swearing-in ceremony.

''The red-zoned roads will have maximum security. Any breach of the law will be firmly dealt with.'' He told reporters on Monday, according to the Standard Newspaper.

Koome also assured Kenyans that the closure of the roads would be only for a short time so there was no need to panic.
