Police officers have nabbed over 300 bags of contraband sugar in a Kisii shop barely 2 days after 185 bags were netted at a supermarket in the town.
Confirming the incident, Kisii Central OCPD Francis Nguli said members of the public who spotted the shop owner at Daraja Mbili offloading contaminated sugar from a probox car alerted them.
“Residents saw the owner of the shop offloading the bags of sugar on Tuesday evening and informed the police who acted immediately and nabbed over 300 bags of contaminated sugar with a Brazilian label,” said Nguli.
He said the shopkeeper escaped arrest but he is being trailed.
“The owner of the shop tricked police officers that he was responding to a long call in his toilet but escaped through the back door. We are trailing him so that he can tell us where he got the contaminated sugar,” he said.
Nguli called on members of the public to be vigilant to ensure traders are not selling fake products to them.
