The Teso Council of Elders has backed the union between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The elders led by the Council chairman Moses Emodo (Teso South) said they back the unity talks move, adding that those opposed to the union want the country to disintegrate.
"As elders we have seen the hand of God in this matter. There was no fault for Raila to go and meet President Uhuru. The opening of the two leaders hearts was a manifestation that our country Kenya is greater than an individual. Uhuru and Raila have rightly demonstrated to the world that there is always a chance to dialogue and put any differences aside for the sake of Kenyans," he said.
Emodo said the handshake between the two after the meeting is a sign of a healing process from the August 8 general election which had left the country heavily paralyzed, ethnically and regionally divided.
"The meeting was a true spirit of brotherhood and great leadership in our two leaders but not a public relations exercise as attributed by certain quarters of our political divide," he said.
He told Raila and Uhuru to agree on all contentious issues to bring the healing nation on the recovery path after the August 8, and October 26, elections.
Emodo said the latest move by three principals Moses Wetangula, Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka to endorse the meeting between the two is laudable and should be reciprocated by all peace loving Kenyans.
Flanked by Santulinos Opakasi, Alex Nakalado and John Ikokony, Emodo asked the National Government to consider the Teso community in the Government appointments which has none currently.
