With CS Fred Matiang'i being on the center of the controversy, Gusii leaders among them Ben Momanyi (Borabu) and Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama have not hesitated to fault him.

And on Saturday, Kisii senator Sam Ongeri, area Women Rep Janet Ong'era and Nyamira deputy governor Amos Nyaribo, demanded that the government frees Miguna.

"The government must all times respect the rule of law. Nobody is above the law and it is essential that Miguna's rights are respected," said Ongeri.

On her part, Ong'era said: "It is pointless to intimidate someone born in the country. We are stooping too low and this is the time to rectify that mess."

But Nyaribo was more specific, insisting that Matiang'i's outright arrogance to the rule of law should not be tolerated in the country.

"Miguna may have his own shortcomings but Matiang'i has no right to deny him citizenship by birth. He should be released unconditionally."
