President Uhuru Kenyatta has said that the plan by the government to increase electricity connection coverage to 70 per cent by June next year is well on course and will be realised.

He said this when he visited Ndigu-ini village in Ndeiya, Kikuyu constituency to look at the implementation of the last mile connectivity project in Kiambu County.

According to the President, nationally, the first phase of the project will see at least 300,000 households connected to electricity by mid next year.

The project takes into account, inquisition of the number of installed transformers all over the country and ensuring every household near transformers is connected.

The government has lifted the burden from customers by reducing installation costs by Sh20,000 as part of an initiative to increase connectivity by customers by a payment of installments.

The charges for electricity connection currently stand at Sh15,000.
