The conundrum surrounding NASA’s election of members to the EALA took another twist on Wednesday after Political Parties Disputes Tribunal temporarily stopped Parliament from electing the NASA nominees.
This is as a result of a case challenging the nominations, and which must be heard and determined first.
“An interim injunction is hereby granted to halt the election of persons listed in the November Notice of motion dated December 11, 2017 namely Oburu Odinga, Abubakar Zain, Beth Mutunga, Fatuma Ibrahim, Loy Mwandi Maviala, Abdikadir Aden, Norman Magaya, Kennedy Musyoka, Justus Muchoge, Jane Marwa, Angela Munyasya pending hearing of this application,” read the order.
Kyalo Mbobu, the tribunal’s chairman, further directed that the notice is put up as an advert in leading newspapers in the country.
The members in the dispute are expected to appear before the inter-party hearing on Monday, December 18, 2017, at 2:30 pm.
This will again delay operations at the EALA assembly, which has been affected after Kenya failed to present the names of its members.
NASA has been accused of failing to meet the criteria required in presenting the names, with their Jubilee counterparts already having settled their list.
The respondents in the case include the nominees, Clerk of the National Assembly, Wiper party, Clerk of the Senate, Amani National Congress and ODM.
