Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has come to the defense of beleaguered Senate Minority Leader Moses Wetangula, who might be forced out of his seat by ODM party members.
The members have decided to replace Wetangula with Siaya Senator James Orengo, in a plan that was hatched last week.
However, while campaigning for Wiper candidate in the Kitui by-election Edith Nyenze, Musyoka defended Wetangula, saying the NASA leaders had called on Raila Odinga to intervene to save the Bungoma Senator from ODM’s plan.
The campaign blitz was skipped by Raila, who is said to have canceled his trip to the land due to bad weather.
“My friend Raila has said that they ODM Party will not take the seat from Wetangula that indicates we are still strong. We will talk to all our senators, we don’t have any problem,” he said.
Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati also came to the defense of Wetangula, saying they will support him to the end.
“We are firmly behind Moses Wetangula. This position of minority leader was negotiated,” he said.
However, a section of the ODM party senators are planning to go ahead with the changes despite the assurances.
The move comes days after Odinga made peace with President Uhuru Kenyatta, agreeing to work together.
