Dagoretti North Member of Parliament on Saturday came out strongly to oppose the controversial Nyangweta Sugar complex project.

According to Mr Arati, the project is being forcefully pursued by the Kisii County Government despite the fact that locals are not supporting it.

"Kisii County Governor James Ongwae is using force to put up the project but locals are not for it as it has more negative impacts than positive ones," he said.

He said that he will rally locals at South Mugirango to oppose the project.

Mr Arati further accused a section of leaders from the region of championing for the construction of the factory with aim of gaining selfishly.

"I am not opposing the project with bad faith only that I have heard that some leaders from the county want to swindle public funds which is not right," he said.

However, in an earlier sentiment, Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has assured locals that they will not allow funds to be misused.

Already Environment CS Fred Tobiko has opposed the putting up of the project.
