The surprise apology by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his political nemesis Raila Odinga has evoked a debate among local politicians.

During National Prayer at Safari Park in Nairobi, the two political protagonists apologised to each other in fronto of cameras.

And in Nyamira, a section of leaders asked Kenyans to replicate the same in villages in a bid to restore unity.

"This is a good gesture and I think we should replicate it to all villages. Political rivalry should not degenerate to hatred," said Douglas Maati, ODM chairman from Kitutu Masaba.

County chairman Richard Kaka said: "Kenya is bigger than any of us. Our leaders have shown the zeal which must be supported across the country."

At the event, Raila's running mate Klaonzo Musyoka and DP William Ruto also apologised to each other.

The country has witnessed relative stability since the rare union of the two leaders slightly over tho months ago.
