Garissa Deputy Governor Abdi Dagane has reacted to the horrible killing of 5 General Service Unit officers in Linoi area, Garissa county, yesterday.
The officers died when a vehicle they were travelling in ran over a suspected improvised explosive device, leaving three others with serious injuries.
Through his official Facebook page account, the Deputy Governor condemned the killing of the officers and sent his condolence message to the families and friends of the departed soldiers.
The DG has further pleaded with the community members to volunteer vital information with the security personnel about anything suspicious in a view to averting similar imminent tragedy in the region.
"I condemn in the strongest terms possible the killing of 5 GSU officers by an IED explosive a long Liboi area. I wish also to extend my sympathy and condolence to the families of the slain soldiers whose grief was more immediate than the rest of us. As we salute the gallantry of soldiers who died while protecting us, I call upon the community members to volunteer information about them that may help in thwarting such cowardly act to the security agencies," posted the Deputy Governor.
Dadaab Deputy County Commissioner Harun Kamau who visited the scene confirmed that the injured officers were airlifted to the capital city for specialised treatments.
The suspected landmines are suspected to have been planted by the Alshabab militants who have been carrying out numerous attack in the region.
