Homabay Women Representative Gladys Wanga has taken a jibe at President Uhuru Kenyatta following Thursday’s incident where he omitted a number of people who played a role towards the achievement of the country’s independence and pluralism.
On Thursday. Kenyatta conspicuously omitted the names of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, his son Raila Odinga, Tom Mboya and even George Anyona all who hails from former Nyanza province despite their legacy in Kenya’s history leading to social media outcry.
And on Saturday in a Facebook post, Ms. Wanga, a key ally of Odinga questioned the manner in which the President omitted the aforementioned individuals saying it would widen the process of reconciliation and peace in the country.
“Kenyans know people who made the country to be what it is today. It’s sad that the President can narrow himself to politics of hatred and ignore certain individuals from a region that has suffered a lot since independence,” read the post.
“However, what I am sure is that he won’t be able to edit the history of this nation by omitting Jaramogi, Raila or Mboya. Their contributions are within the hearts of Kenyans and by ignoring them, he is the one who misses the point,” she added.
Wanga joins a host of other Nyanza MPs led by Opiyo Wandayi, Fred Outa among others who have openly criticized the President’s Mashujaa Day speech.
