Slightly hours after the death of multi-democracy hero Kenneth Matiba, more leaders have joined the bandwagon of praising the octogenarian role in advancement of democratic space in the country.

After years of struggling with mental instability and unimaginable atrocities in  the hands of retired President Daniel Moi, Matiba died in Karen Hospital on Sunday.

Back in Nyamira, local leaders have hailed Matiba's contributions with some regretting how subsequent governments ignored his plight.

"This is a sad day for the country. We have lost a hero of our time and on behalf of the county, I join the country is mourning his demise," said Governor John Nyagarama.

Firebrand Borabu MP Ben Momanyi was more categorical, accusing the state of only remembering people who 'matter' when they die.

For Ben, the State should change her 'attitude' by appreciating heroes when they are alive rather than showering them with praises upon death.

"We have mastered the art of hypocrisy by mourning heroes upon their death. It is a bad culture that the government must shun," he said.

Minutes after his death, President Uhuru Kenyatta was pictured  driving off from Karen Hospital where the Second Liberation fighter was admitted.
