For the better part of Friday, Ruto was hailed by a number of leaders from both Nyamira and Kisii Counties as he toured the region for the first time since October last year.

And Kisii Women Representative Janet Ong'era has ignited a fierce debate over Ruto's suitability, a move that has been backed by high profile leaders.

"He has not done anything substantive to warrant the community's support. I don't think if his tours will yield any fruit," she said.

Similar sentiments were shared by Nyamira senator Okong'o Mogeni who said that Ruto's 2022 bid was just but an 'imaginary dream'.

"I am pretty sure that it will not happen and not soon. His past is so much implicated that I don't see him making past the deputy presidential post," he said.
