The Canadian barrister having landed at JKIA at around 2:30 pm on Monday, was not allowed to get out of the airport. Having renounced submitting his Canadian passport as asked by the immigration authority, he spent the whole night at JKIA on Monday.

The government claimed that Miguna Miguna is not a citizen of Kenya and had to follow the legal procedures to reinstate his citizenship. However, the efforts to reinstate his citizenship hit a dead end after Miguna failed to sign the legal forms offered to him, in order to apply for his citizenship.

Nyeri Town MP Ngujiri Wambugu gave his side of the coin, championing the movement of the government to renounce Miguna’s Kenyan citizenship.

In his Facebook post the Mt. Kenya politician Ngujiri said, “According to chapter 3, Article 14 clause 5, a person who is a Kenyan citizen by birth and who ceased to be a Kenyan citizen by acquiring citizenship of another country, is entitled to application, to regain Kenyan citizenship”

According to Ngujiri, Miguna lost his Kenyan citizenship when he acquired Canadian citizenship and therefore must apply to regain it.

He also added:” Miguna is insisting not to sign this forms. He expects to regain his citizenship “automatically”-whatever that means. Maybe someone should tell him that in Kenya even the Children born here must have forms filled to get their birth certificates. Hii upuzi aache!”
