The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentist Union (KMPDU) have continued advocating for the absorbing of health care givers initially employed under the Economic Stimulus programme (ESP) in Nakuru County.
Cyprine Odera secretary of the Health care givers, she accused the county of reluctance in the process of absorbing the nurses in the devolved system.
She noted that they were in agreement the process was to be completed by April 15,but this was yet to take place as the county is yet to honor its assurances.
"We have already tabled various issues pertaining our health care givers to the county officials but they have not engaged us in any progressive discussions," she said.
According to Odera the health care givers who were employed in a bid to curb the health crisis in hospitals had been assured of been made permanent and pensionable at the end of their contracts which is yet to be.
"Out of a total of 185 nurses to be absorbed on 68 nurses have been absorbed raisin the query what would happen to the more than 115 still pending absorption,” she said.
According to her, Contracts of most of the 20 nurses employed per constituency under the ESP expired last year and it was not clear yet whether they are to be absorbed in the county.
Ms Odera also refuted allegations that the nurses were on strike or go-slow and called on them to attend to their duties as Union officials engaged county officials in a bid to get amicable solutions.
She said the growing dissent has seen undue unrest in Nakuru county which has mostly been characterized by staff strikes, go slows, boycotts, salary delays, non-payment of staff and interference by the political order.
Although health services were among the functions that were devolved, health workers have, in the past, expressed their unwillingness to work under county governments leading to major crises in public hospitals.
