The sorry state of Kibera's Woodley Grounds continues to raise concerns among residents.

Locals have been complaining about the dilapidation at the pitch that was once famed for producing local football talents.

The pitch is mostly muddy when it rains and seats have since been stolen from the terraces. 

In a tweet, the hood's team Kibera Black Stars has lamented the sad state of the pitch and urged authorities to move in and rescue them.

"Happy 2018! All Kibra teams want to play on a better pitch. Our wish is the renovation of Woodley Ground," the tween read.

Local youth leader Moses Omondi said the ground risked being grabbed by local investors:

"Did you know that Woodley Estate was named in honor of Frederick Richard Woodley, the sports-mad mayor of Nairobi who oversaw its construction between 1949 and 1950. But did you know that WoodleyEstate was occasioned by the end of World War II in order to house some jungus who were not able to afford affluent areas like Karen, Muthaiga among others? Did you know that the estate boasts a history of colourful personalities key among them: Barack Obama Snr, a Deputy Prime Minister, several Cabinet ministers, top civil servants, an Olympian, Members of Parliament, assistant ministers, freedom fighters and airline captains? Now you know why we must okoa this kalix before iende kwa walee wasee."

A football player Brian Inganga who played at the venue in his formative years asked the local MP and Governor Mike Sonko to move in swiftly. 

"Today spent my day where I was raised and bred #Kibera. Seen good football compared to TV paid leagues. Very encouraging and good turn out. Hope my MP Ken Okoth and Governor Mike Sonko will construct Woodley ground to be home of football in Kibera constituency. 2018 better things for the youths in Kibera!" he said.
