The cash transfer programme for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in Thika West Sub-County has been scaled up by 405 households.

The Sub-county Children’s officer, Rebecca Kariuki said this brings the total to 2,965 up from 2,560 the number of households benefiting from the fund that started in 2008.

The officer who spoke during an Area Advisory Council for Children’s Affairs meeting held at Makongeni Hall on Thursday morning said the households receive Sh1,500 each month.

The officer further called on the sub-county advisory council to liaise and share data with other funds in the sub-county to avoid duplication of work.

"Beneficiaries were selected after careful scrutiny of applicants and any changes will only be made after consultation with the sub-county Children’s offices," she added.

Kariuki called on the sub-county advisory council to formulate work plans every year to attract funding and other assistance from partners and the government.

She called for a safe holding premise for child offenders and children in need of care and protection.

Kariuki however, challenged Non-Governmental Organisations dealing with children’s affairs and the county government to address the issue urgently.

Makongeni sub-location had an increase of 53 households while Section Nine and Kiandutu sub-locations had an increase of 27 and 49 households respectively while Karibaribi had the lowest Iincrease of 13 households.
