Four people are reported to have died on Tuesday, after the vehicle they were travelling in ran over a landmine in Garissa County.
This brings the number of those who have died in similar attacks in the past month to nearly 30, even as Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery maintains all is well.
Nkaissery has also refuted claims that the recently bought armored vehicles are sub-standard.
The four who died are workers of an Italian-based NGO, and were travelling to the neigbouring Liboi before it rain over the device.
Their death brought the figure of those who have lost their lives in similar cases to 29, in the past four weeks.
Appearing before the National Assembly Security Committee on Tuesday, Nkaissery insisted that the volatile North Eastern region is well under control.
“The issue of security in the North East is fully taken care of. We have provided a lot of resources in terms of communication
He further defended the government, after being taken to task to explain the quality of the armored vehicles bought by the government, after one of them was destroyed during an attack where several officers lost their lives in Lamu.
The recent wave of attacks has targeted police officers, and the purchase of the vehicles was seen as the ultimate defence of the police in the border regions.
