The government has deployed an additional 220 police reservists to West Pokot County.

The reservists are set to assist regular police beef up security in the region that has been hit with bandit attacks.

Speaking during an event at Kapenguria police headquarters on Tuesday, West Pokot police boss Mathews Kuto stated that the reservists will patrol hotspot areas along the borders of West Pokot and Elgeyo-Marakwet counties. 

He added that the areas mostly affected by insecurity are Amolem, Turkwel, Lochakula, Kainuk, Kamelei, Chesogon, Chepkoko, Kapshen, Lelan, Ombolion, Sekurot, Masol and East Marakwet. 

Kuto stated that the reservists will man routes normally used by raiders from different communities.
