Some Coast leaders have asked NASA MPs from the region to keep good their threat and abandon the opposition alliance.

Led by former MPs Gideon Mung'aro (Kilifi North) and Gunga Mwinga (Kaloleni), the leaders accused the Raila Odinga-led ODM party of shortchanging Coast lawmakers in the opposition.

"Time is ripe for the region to realign itself politically after early signs of ODM showing it has little regard for leaders from this region," Mung'aro said during a press briefing on Saturday.

Mwinga told the MPs to brace for tough times ahead after they were not given any leader leadership roles in parliamentary committees named recently.

On Thursday, Coast legislators protested at their exclusion from the House leadership positions, accusing their ODM colleagues from Nyanza of taking all the positions.

"Coast MPs had unanimously agreed to give the Minority Whip position to Suleiman Dori (Msambweni MP)," said Mvita legislator Abdulswamad Sharif.

The position was given to Kathiani MP Robert Mbui of Wiper.

Majority Leader Aden Duale urged the Coast MPs to leave NASA if they felt despised in the alliance.

"If a marriage is not working, you divorce. This Parliament and you Mr Speaker should not allow yourself to be involved in a divorce case whose marriage you were not invited to," said Duale, as quoted by The Standard.
