Civil society groups now want IEBC officials involved in illegalities during the general election conducted on August 8 prosecuted.

Under their coalition, Kura Yangu Sauti Yangu, the organisations called on Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to investigate the conduct of the electoral officials and their role in the election which presidential outcome was annulled by the Supreme Court for 'illegalities' and 'irregularities'.

"We call for action to petition the office of the DPP to hold to account the electoral officials who were involved in flawed elections," said Gladwell Otieno, Africa Centre for Open Governance (AfriCOG) Director, as quoted by the Standard.

Otieno said they would stage a peaceful demonstration, starting from Freedom Corner to the DPP's office to demand prosecution of the said officials.

The lobby also demanded that the poll agency sack the officials before conducting repeat election next month.

"We demand IEBC to affect staff changes before the repeat poll. We are aware of some electoral officials who have taken a partisan position," she added.

Similar calls have been made by the National Super Alliance (NASA) which has threatened to boycott polls if their grievances are not addressed.
