Deputy President William Ruto was in the country on Friday when President Uhuru Kenytta named a partial cabinet, we can reveal.
Ruto jetted back in the country from India on that Friday January 5, our sources said.
Kenyans wondered why Uhuru announced changes to his government while alone this time.
The two, Uhuru and his deputy, have been running something like a nusu-mkate government - always announcing major changes together but that was not the case on Friday.
Keen observers also did not miss the Presidents body language - he used 'I have appointed so and so' as opposed to where he said 'after consultations'.
"May be it is the new way of doing things," an ally of Ruto told a local paper.
The DP's spokespetson David Mugonyi, however, dismissed any tensions between the president and his deputy saying the constitution is clear on whose job it is to announce the cabinet.
