As Rashid Echesa Mohammed takes over from Hassan Wario as the new Sports and Heritage CS, questions continue to rise over his qualifications and credentials.
Reports indicate that he dropped out of school in class seven, with many questioning his suitability for office.
Leaders including Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi have come to his defense, saying book smarts are not necessarily the only requirement in as far as leadership is concerned.
“The other day the president and his deputy gave us Cabinet Secretaries, and many are talking about Echesa and his qualifications, I want to say that he might do a good job than the one who is leaving,” he said.
He was speaking during the burial of Bellah Kemboi the elder brother of former 1,500 meters world champion Asbel Kiprop.
The new CS comes in with a lot on his plate and has vowed to clean the ministry’s name, which was tainted in 2016.
The commonwealth games in April will be another huge test for the new CS, who will be keen to ensure the Rio 2016 fiasco does not happen again.
Lack of completion of various stadia as promised by the Jubilee government n 2013 will be another major project for Echesa.
