The death of Migori senator Ben Okello Aluoch has taken scores of Kenyans by surprise.
Mr Okello had been locked in a grueling battle with throat cancer that saw him travel to India to seek medical attention.
As Kenyans reacted to the grim news, the residents of Garissa who talked to Hivisasa also weighed in.
Here is a sample of what they had to say:
" My heartfelt condolences to the great people of Migori for the loss," Rahid Ahmed said.
"My thoughts and prayers are with the family. May Allah give them the strength to bear," Salim Kamal said.
"We need, as a country, to equip our health facilities with what they need to fight cancer," Halakhe Omar said.
"May he rest in peace," Said Ibrahim said.
"The health of Kenyans should be a priority of the government. We need to get our act together," Salma Sukre said.
"This is a blow to the people of Migori who had faith in him. May Allah be with them in this period of difficulty," Jamal Galgalo said.
